Ansley Lister has grown since he find his place under the wings of Thomas Ruf, the founder of Ruf Records. With Upside Down he released his fourth studio album his seventh in total when you include the Bluescaravan and a couple of live albums. The thing that got my attention right away that all twelve songs are originals and, after listening, that this is a varied album. It goes from blues to pop to ballad. This all speaks in Ansley’s advantage since he is blessed with a great voice and plays tremendous guitar. He also got a good sense for drama. Listen to ‘Beautiful’ written for his daughter Keiana and ‘Rain’ two classic acoustic songs who are definitely worth while listening to. Fortunately not everything is drama, with tracks like ‘In The Morning’ and ‘Find My Way’ things speed up and they make us feel happier. A big smile on my face when I listen to the blues-rock tracks ‘Upside Down’, ‘Disorderly Me’ and a superb ‘With Me Tonight’. Again he had a great band backing him up with Alex Thomas on drums and Jo Nichols on bass, this girl knows how to handle a bass guitar, with Paul Speed on percussion while Sue Quin took care of the backing vocals. Ansley himself takes responsibility for all the guitar and vocals. This young man is a class act and has proven it with this album.
