Rosa's Blueslounge is a well known bluesclub in Chicago where already a lot of blues artists appeared. They offer a wide range of blues styles so the variation is very high. Legends like David Honeyboy Edwards, Homesick James and Pinetop Perkins, but also todays artists like Billy Branch, Melvin Taylor and Sugar Blue were already there as a guest. Also the from Indianola, Mississippi man Little Arthur Duncan. The recordings for this DVD (also available on CD, both on the Delmark Records label) happened on august 18th 2007. Arthur was assisted by 'The Backscratchers', an excellent and capable group of musicians to support such a blues hero. In the line-up we find the guitar players Illinois Slim and Rick Kreher, bass player Michael Azzi and on drums Twist Turner. On the song 'I Got To Find My Baby the vocals are being done by Little Al Thomas the guest musician. The DVD is full of what I would subscribe as typical Chicago blues. This streaming started the end of the 40er and 50er years of lasts century and contains sufficient flexibility to support every musician, singer, guitar player, pianoplayer and mouthharp player or horn player as a solo player. So Duncan woneasy my interest with some fine lyrics, amongst others Arthur "Big Boy"Crudup's 'Mean Ol Frisco', the warm 'No Place To Go' of Howlin' Wolf and the opening song 'Leaving Mississippi' what is more or less a biography(his moving from Mississippi to the cold Chicago of the 50ers last century) Duncan has a nice voicing (soft and cracking), pure and reliable. Also on the mouthharp he is very solid. The soundtrack quality is more than reasonable. Everything was filmed very nicely without disturbing elements and on top some nice camera shots from the inside of this well known bluesclub. Furthermore there's the possibility to choose between three kinds of sound recordings. Something which is importantfor the sound freaks amongst us. Of course there are also some adds like trailers of Carey Bell, Jimmy Burns, Taildragger and Mississippi heat, some of them I have discussed already earlier. In an interview, Duncan subscribes his love for the blues as follows: I'll play what I love and I'll love what I play. He could'nt have said it more nicer.
