Live at B.L.U.E.S

Jimmy Burns

Until now, I didn’t have the opportunity to visit all those famous Bluesclubs in the windy city Chicago, but I can imagine how it is. Think about my trip in Mississippi in 2006 where I visited a lot of local juke-joints. B.L.U.E.S. is the name of a very well known Bluesclub in Chicago, a place that I really would like to visit one day. It is also a club where many Blues artists gave memorable live shows, also singer/guitarist/harmonicaplayer Jimmy Burns. For me, he’s not unknown, I still remember his great performance on the Blues Estafette in Utrecht (Holland) in 2000. With the release of this dvd by Delmark records, I can see it all happen again. The recordings where made on August 13, 2006 and there were some very nice songs on the setlist like ‘Miss Annie Lou’, (from the ‘Night Time Again’ cd) ‘No Consideration’, ‘Better Know What You’re Doing’ and ‘Mean Mistreating Mama’. It became a mix of typical Chicago blues, Rhythm & Blues, Soul, Funk and some Delta Blues. The atmosphere was pleasant, Jimmy and his band took care of that. Sometimes explosive, sometimes nice and cosy. Jimmy’s bandmembers were Anthony Palmer (rhythm & solo guitar), E.G. McDaniel (bass) and James Carter (drums). Special guest in B.B. King’s ‘Three O’ Clock Blues’ was Jesse Fortune. By the way, Jesse also recorded for Delmark (he had a hit in 1963 with ‘Too Many Cooks’), maybe that’s why he was invited. Of course, there are some extra’s on the dvd like an interview, two bonustracks and a Taildragger preview (another Delmark artist). If this is all too much for you, you can do without the dvd and just buy the cd.
