Seven Moons

Jack Bruce & Robin Trower

‘Seven Moons’ is the third collaboration from these two gentlemen with help from Gary Husband on drums. The whole idea was to go into the studio to record some bonus tracks for the forthcoming remasters from their previous albums ‘B.L.T.’ and ‘Truce’ both from 1981. Something I look forward too as well. But the thing went so fantastic that they decided to release a new album. With ‘Seven Moons’ these giants from the English music scene show us that as long as their faces look in the same direction you don’t need a long time to create a masterpiece. But he, these guys earned their status and created some wonderful stuff in the sixties and seventies. Jack Bruce, of course, is best known for his partnership in Cream but only after he played bass in The Graham Bond Organisation amongst other bands, while Robin Trower successfully played lead guitar in Procol Harum before he went solo. Gary Husband is best known for his work with John McLaughlin, Level 42 and Gary Moore. This album sounds like it is from the seventies but it is brand new. All eleven tracks are written by Jack and Robin and are a mix of psychedelic blues, jazz and blues-rock. With a leading role for Robin Trower who shows us that he is still a master on guitar. Also Jack’s jazz background plays a principal part with Gary playing some tremendous drums. Naturally people like to compare this with music from Cream but that is not fair to the other two I think. With songs like ‘Seven Moons’, ‘Distance Places Of The Heart’, ‘Just Another Day’, ‘I’m Home’ and ‘Lives Of Clay’ these two guys prove that they are not less than Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker where in those days. It is just another time. There is not a weak moment on this disc and it yearns for more each time you play it. One of the strong points from this album is that there are no covers from neither of the musicians. This album stands already very high in my list for best album from the last couple of years.
