A power trio coming from Hickory, North Carolina (US) has been building up a nice reputation in their hometown. Terry Eckard alias The King of Southern Boogie is the engine. Behind this power trio and knows with his energetic (Slide) guitar playing very well how to express the Southern Rock feeling. The band has brought out two CD’s Angelene (1997) and Rebel On The Highway (2007). Thirteen tracks are on the latest disc, all of Terry himself. ‘Hey’! is the opening song. A song played with semi-acoustic guitar playing, completed with Mouth harp. ‘Easy On Myself’ with this the band is showing us what they really have to offer. A beautiful slide part half away the song, is clearly stating us that we hear a skills mans job .The title track ‘Rebel On The Highway’ leaves clearly some recognizing behind. Guitar distortion completed by a stowing bass and drums, along with the easy singing chorus, a song that is going through my head for some days. The longest song of the CD last 6 minutes seventeen seconds, ‘Lovers Got Me Crying’ a slow blues beautiful sung by Terry and perfectly completed with his own guitar lead part. ‘Maria’s Fire’ is to my listening a some kind weaker song of the total. But that is done right by the other twelve songs surely. What do you think of ‘Cat Square’ a powerful boogie song, with nice guitar playing of Terry. A song Georg Thorogood can take over easily, tremendous! If we remind that we have to do with a power trio, than I must admit that the men made a beautiful, divers album of it.
