Raw and Real

Stoney Curtis Band

The Stoney Curtis Band is formed around singer/guitarplayer Stoney Curtis. This power trio goes on were Led Zeppelin and the Cream ( just to name a few) left off. These bands are together with the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Stevie Ray Vaughan Stoney’s main influences. They play psychedelic blues rock with a capital R for rock. Stoney is accompanied by Colby Smith on bass and Charlie Glover on drums. ‘Raw & Real’ is released on the provoque label, contains thirteen tracks and is a must for the guitar freaks amongst us. Stoney squeezes the most amazing sounds out of his Stratocaster combined with a good technique, that’s promising. And we are not disappointed when we listen to ‘Raw & Real’. Right from the start we are blown out of our seats with ‘That’s Right’, ‘Sometimes She Likes Me’ and ‘Girlfriend’. What a power! They slow down with an eight minutes lasting ‘Behind The Sun’. A typical seventies hardrock ballad the way Judas Priest and Black Sabbath have done as well. The sensitive side of Stoney comes along during the blues ballad ‘Blues Without You’ only to prepare us for some hard rock tracks like ‘Black Rose’ and ‘Dirt’. This band knows how to combine their influences from the sixties and seventies into their own music which feels damn good to me. Superb.
