Larry Miller’s latest and as far as I know his fifth album is one to treasure. They named it ‘Outlaw Blues’ and contains ten self written tracks. He picked up a guitar at the age of seven and was later in life influenced by guitar greats like Jimi Hendrix, Gary Moore, Rory Gallagher, Johnny Winter and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Many well respected blues magazines compare him with his and our guitar hero’s and he goes on where these guitar gods left off. With the same passion for blues-rock as all his hero’s and with help from Scott Hunter on drums, Neil Sadler on bass, both ex Ian Anderson/Jethro Tull, and Matt Empson on keyboards and harmonica Larry treats us with his fantastic guitar playing with yet another great blues experience. From blues to ballad it’s all here. Nothing new to be honest but they bring it so well that it doesn’t matter that most of the tracks have something familiar. That’s mainly due to the fact that they put so much energy in this project to give it their own sound. The best example is ‘Storm Comin’ where Larry plays one of the best known blues riffs ever. If I say ‘Mannish Boy’ from Muddy Waters the dyed-in-the-wool blues connoisseur knows enough. On ‘Klondike’ Larry proves that he masters a dobro as well. A song that strongly reminds us of Rory Gallagher. This is a fantastic album which all you blues lovers must hear, or better said, purchase. You won’t be disappointed, you can take my word for it.
