In spite of being a guy who has been playing music for quite a while, there is not much information to find of Richard Earl. The band, coming from Texas, has five members. Besides Richard Earl, who takes care of all the vocals on this record, there is Jack Edery on guitar, Chris Thibodeaux on keyboard, Bob Stidham on bass and Robert Smith on drums. This record contains eleven songs, of which eight are written by Richard. The other three songs are covers. What strikes me is the fact that the keyboard is very present in all the songs. The opener ‘Henpecked’ is a relaxed song with a bright guitar sound. ‘Comin’Back Baby’ begins with a more heavy guitar intro, something that we can also here on ‘Blues Over You’. The voice of Earl is melancholic and has a trembling character. Sometimes it seems like you’re hearing Robert Cray singing, but the quality of the songs doesn’t equal the songs of Cray. As always I listen several times to a record before giving a judgement. Most of the time there is a good feeling, but unfortunately it wasn’t the case with this record. There is little variation and it all sounds rather plain. The title ‘One More Song’ should be an invitation, but, although the effort of the musicians is not bad, I had enough of it. The songs that I had heard weren’t inviting enough to listen to this record again.
