JB’s Blues Crew had their first live CD, with title “Live at de Plevuus”, out in 2006 and now, 2 years later, they come up with self recorded studio album filled with own arranged songs. This album, “Mumbo Jumbo”, has a total of 16 tracks. Remarkable are ‘Tell Me What’s The Reason’ by Florence Cadres. Great guitar with drums and bass as a full backup completion. The track ‘Mumbo Jumbo’, same as the album title, shows a great guitar sound with a wonderful harp solo by John Brouwer. Then we have ‘Wake up Boogie’ starting with a guitar intro followed by a great boogie. John is responsible for this great track and it will surely be one that will get all the attention when performed live. John Brouwer (song/harp) and Eric Davidse (guitar) are the one’s who wrote most of the songs in their first album. It only took them 2 days to record the CD. ‘Yellow Springs’ by Eric Davidse brings a sound that’s perfect for easy listening, sensible performance with the beautiful voice of John. ‘Up town Down Town’ is a song with a lot of strength under influence of John’s harp solo. All is recorded by themselves and this instead of using a very expensive recording studio, they did it all in 2 days and this with a remarkable result! Variation in sounds, simply the blues as this is supposed to be. I’ll have my CD player on repeat, get myself a beer and enjoy again!
