Live From Nowhere In Particular

When I received an e-mail from Bobtje Blues that I could expect the new Bonamassa live I was ecstatic. Listening to his new double live cd proved me right. ‘Live From Nowhere In Particular’ has become a tremendous album containing fourteen tracks. The majority are from “You and Me” and “Sloe Gin”, his last two studio albums, completed with some of Joe’s all time favorites. And like the title does suspect it is a compilation of live recordings from his 2007 fall tour. In the meantime Joe is chosen in 2008 as the best blues rock guitar player by the readers from Guitar Player magazine. The album kicks off with ‘Bridge To Better Days’ including a Deep Purple teaser from ‘Perfect Strangers’. The first goose bumps came with the intro for ‘Walk In My Shadow’, a fantastic powerful intro for a great blues tune, as is ‘So Many Roads’ by the way. One of the highlights for me is the combo ‘India/Mountaintime’. Truly a great musical piece with sweet guitar playing and fine vocals. Call this my second goose bump moment while ‘A New Day Yesterday/Stormtrooper/Wurm’ nearly reaches the same level. ‘Sloe Gin’ is played in a somewhat easier pace than the version from his studio album but kicks ass anyway. My third goose bump moment came when Joe shouts to the audience “let’s have some fun shall we” and starts to play ‘Woke Up Dreaming’, smashing. It amazes me that one man can play like this on a acoustic guitar. Further on we are treated with some more fine slow blues like ‘If Heartaches Were Nickels’ and the bittersweet ‘Asking Around For You’. There are no weak moments on “Live From Nowhere In Particular” or it must be that the whole is not a recording from one show but more a “ best of live”.
