‘Iron Man’ is Michael’s third album since he found shelter at Alligator Records in 2001. His nickname “Iron Man” is a well earned one because of his physical performances. Despite his age of fifty one he doesn’t lack any passion or energy whatsoever. His previous album ‘I Smell Smoke’ was received very well by his fans as well as by the critics that it was nominated for several awards and they were already looking out for the successor. Well, it’s here now and it is called ‘Iron Man’. This gentleman knows how to play blues and he is eager to show us through the twelve tracks on this album. The majority is self written and is loaded with energetic guitar solos and licks. Something you might expect from young guitar players who are eager to show off and to prove themselves. But not with Michael, it all is played in the right proportions and is not overdone in anyway, although the guitar notes whizz around our ears. What else do we expect from somebody who had his first gig when he was only six years old. This proves yet again that the blues comes from deep within this man who is also blessed with a very good voice, it sometimes sounds like Robert Cray’s soulful voice. On ‘Iron Man’ Michael is accompanied by Wayne Sharp on organ and piano, Don Garrett on bass, Chuck ‘Popcorn’ Louden on drums and Frank Donaldson on percussion. ‘Iron Man’ is a full album with all the aspects you may expect from a modern blues album and is highly recommended.
