Sharrie Williams is also kown as ‘The Princess of rockin’ gospelblues’. Together with her excellent band The Wiseguys, she has released her third album. Sharrie Williams is a deeply religious woman. It’s therefore not a surprise that her roots are in gospel music. Now her talent is totally dedicated to singing blues and jazz and you can hear that on her new CD ‘I'm Here To Stay’. It contains fifteen songs, recorded in Pennsylvania, written by herself and with assistance of her band members. ‘Fire’ the opening track, is a solid track in which we frequently hear the Hammond organ, which we also hear in ‘Jealousy’. This is a nice slow blues in which we hear a beautiful guitar solo. The title track ‘I'm Here To Stay’ is a song with obvious gospel influence: clapping hands and a choir, it’s a nice and groovy song. It reminds me of The Blind Boys of Alabama. Another song with strong gospel influence is ‘Pocono Praise’. A magnificent and powerful song with a lovely piano solo but unfortunately too short; two minutes twenty five. However, there are also “sweet” quiet songs on this disc, such as ‘Seeking’ and ‘Gotta Go Thru Hell’. Regrettably these songs don’t really appeal to me. In ‘Power’ the backing of The Wiseguys strongly reminds me of Mother’s Finest (distortion guitar and attractive vocals of Sharrie). This CD is not merely a gospel album, the fifteen tracks have a lot of variety. Sharrie Williams is born for the gospel blues…. She has put her heart and her soul into this third album. This is certainly an album for the real fan of this music genre.
