Deliveries After Dark

Ted ‘Popa Chubby’ Horowitz is a man who recorded over twenty albums since 1991. And he is still going strong, very strong. ‘Deliveries After Dark’ yet again proves that he is the man if it comes to solid rock and blues from New York City, whether you like him or not. The album kicks off with a couple of rock songs. All the rock tunes have a somewhat familiar touch, like I’ve heard this before, which makes this album so good I guess. ‘Sally Likes To Run’ is one of them and is about his beloved 1971 Ford Mustang. This also goes for the title track ‘Deliveries After Dark’. In ‘Theme From The Godfather’ Popa shows his skills on the guitar with yet again a solo we’ve heard before somewhere. The first blues track is one of the highlights and is called ‘Grown Man Crying Blues’. ‘You Can’t Stop Love’ and ‘Man Of The Blues’ are a kind of country blues and a nice chance between the heavy stuff. ‘I’ll Piss On Your Grave’ is musically the best blues track on this album but I don’t like the lyrics. ‘Money Isn’t Everything (it’s the only thing)’ is more a pop song with an intro I heard before in a Rush track called ‘Xanadu’. Well the surprise doesn’t stop here because there is also a reggae type of song called ‘Woman In My Bed Dub’. Then the last of the thirteen tracks is a poetry called ‘Oh Rock and Roll You Heartless Bitch’. ‘Sally Likes To Run’ and ‘Deliveries After Dark’ are enclosed as a video clip. This is an album with multiple faces and doesn’t get boring. Solid blues and rock from New York’s finest.
