Music from Iceland? Of course, there is Bjork who put her country on the international musical calendar, but besides her, I cannot give any other name of an artist out of this country with barely three hundred thousand inhabitants, were the half live in and around Reykjavik, which is the capital. The base for this band is formed by the collaboration between Ingvi Thor Kormaksson and John (JJ) Soul. Soul is from Oxford, Great Britain. Kormaksson and the rest of the musicians are as said from Iceland. Since nineteen ninety three they work together as songwriters.It seems to me that writing and recording of songs is their starting point.I cannot tell you if they are also a live performing band. Besides being a musician, Soul is also working as an art teacher. I would describe the music as jazzpop and it could be associated with the music of bands like Steely Dan. The average blues lover will find it too smooth and sophisticated. Maybe they will have their point, but the fact is that I seldom heard more talented musicians gathered on one album. Also the arrangements and lyrics are top level, and sound tight, complicated and easy listening at one time.. I therefore will encourage everyone to listen to the music of this band/formation. I will bet that ninety percent will be pleasantly surprised!
