Coen Wolters Band - New CD

The German Bluestrain Music Management and BBP know each other for some time and every now and then we chitchat on the internet, although our main subject, of course, is blues. So Willi let us know that the Coen Wolters Band booked studio time to record a new album.

After successfully touring in Europe for a few years, it was time for a review of the repertoire and the musical direction, sort of going back to the roots. During the last year Coen had been looking for new stuff, new ideas and new influences. Of course, the old masters are still there, but the musical odyssey ended, for the time being, with jazz, funk and the soul masters of the sixties. The result is ‘The Numbers Game’, Coen’s third cd on the American/German label ‘Crying Tone’, that will appear in August, 2008.

Newly joint drummer Mike Tanger and veteran Erwin van Gestel on bass are Coen’s assistants on a cd that will surprise many. ‘Rock’ has been changed to ‘funk’ and ‘soul’, although the blues is still present. In former years, it was all guitars, but nowadays they go for ‘groove’ and songs. True stories and real life experiences are being wrapped up in songs that will haunt the listener. Mind you, this doesn’t mean that this band has become all song writing without Coen’s snapping guitar. The review after a show with Snowy White on the well known ‘Rother Bluestagen’ clearly stated: “Young, Hot and probably within a few years one of Europe’s leading Blues guitarists”. And this is what the band wants to prove! According to Willi from Bluestrain.

We, here on Bobtjes Blues Pages, are very curious as to the result. We will tell you all about it in due time.
