If you have nothing on your schedule around the end of July or in case you have planned to visit France, then this festival offers you a particular beautiful alternative. The renowned Blues Passions festival celebrates this year its 15th anniversary with a very attractive program, spread out over no less than six days, this of Tuesday 22 July 2008 up to Sunday 27 July 2008.
Michel Rolland, the founder and director of this festival, proved year by year that he guarantees, along with his team, a perfectly organized festival with a pallet of well-known and less confessed musicians on the program list. Each time again he surprises the festival visitor in his choice of talented artists coming from several continents. Moreover, the festival extends year by year with a number of innovations; creativity impregnates so to say the inventively with as result an always more perfect musical experience.
This year this festival proves again to belong to the top in its segment. Each visitor will find what he prefers, at equally which moment of the day or night. The very attractive and well looked after Town Park is the operating base for several scenes; where from early morning up to midnight the blues and roots melodies whirl around. Furthermore there are the several cozy terraces, scattered over the partly traffic free town centre, with a broad musical offer; as well as the exceptional setting of the concert room in the cellars of the castle, the sociable court of the cognac house Camus and the renovated slaughterhouses on the bank of the river Charente, to undergo an overwhelming choice of musical amusement. On the extended program occurs however absolutely no Belgian group/musician, this in contrast to the previous editions, an observation which I only can label as sad, because on the potential of good Belgian musicians can scarcely be doubted.
Cognac is situated at about 800 km of Brussels, the climate there is pleasant (the Atlantic coast is nearby) and the people are very blues minded. Accommodation possibility and restaurant facilities are largely available. For further detailed information, such as the musicians /groups programmed, the different scenes, arrangements and so on, I gladly refer you to the excellent and vast web site of this festival. Whoever has attended this festival, will agree that this is an excellent festival, if you consider attending this festival for a first time, do not doubt, you won’t regret it for a moment...
